My hero, Dave Ramsey, tells of abusive practices and the violation of Federal law incorporated by debt collectors – particularly credit card debt collectors. Most people do not know that they have rights guaranteed to them by the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and debt collectors knowingly and habitually break these laws in order to frighten them into paying. IT IS NOT AGAINST THE LAW TO OWE MONEY! Do not allow yourself to be lied to (example: “You’re going to go to jail if you don’t pay this” is one of their favorites!) or treated without the dignity you deserve. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS UNDER THE FDCPA: Collectors can NOT call you before 8 am or after 9 pm Collectors can NOT threaten to have you arrested or charged with a crime if you dont pay Collectors can NOT continue to call after you have indicated you want them to stop (record your conversation with them, tell them you ARE recording it, write the date and time down in a journal, and follow up with a certified letter stating they may no longer call.) Collectors can NOT call friends, family members or colleagues repeatedly in order to get you to pay (they may call your acquaintances ONCE in order to track you down and may NOT mention that you owe money or give ANY information that would lead someone to believe that they are attempting to collect a debt.) I had one call me about a truck I hadn’t had for 2 1/2 years. Had to do a shortsale because I lost my job and couldnt afford it. They wanted 5600 for a shortsale I owed 3071 for. They wanted 5600, I said I could give them 3250 cash money right now. It took them a few hours, but they accepted and Im glad its off my back and I have a job now.
Fuck all debt collectors. They should be beaten within an inch of their lives at every opportunity.
everytime I get harrassed by collections it’s always a nigger, I think they hire ghetto monkeys so they will intimidate over the phone like they do in everyday life p.s they call about persons that have never been at this address or phone #
@tgerambio It sounds like you’ve never read his books. He is definitely not telling people what they want to hear. He’s telling them what’s necessary for them to take the action to get out of their debt.

Mr. Ramsey is telling you all what you want to hear. He is making money selling you a dream. He is referring to a group of bad apples in much larger group. When you listen to Mr Ramsey, you are giving him your time. He then sells some of your time to advertisers. Its not worth much, but when a million people tune in to him, he gets rich. Wake up guys, you’re being stroked. He is making money pointing out the bad guy. Hitler did the same thing.
@yahoopl3 are you kidding me? are you aware that sometimes debt collectors call people who do not even owe a debt and harrass them because a family member who died was in debt? They try to trick people into paying debts they don’t owe, or abuse them hoping they will cave. Also at times someone might not have the money but the collecter won’t care and will try to get the person fired. It is illegal. Just because you do not agree with a law does not mean its OK for someone to break it.
